Shop Plano
Remember I had suggested that Plano was hurting as well as the rest of our neighboring sister cities with the fall in the amount of sales tax. People are not buying as much. Therefore the sales tax is down.
Plano’s decrease from 2008 has been 13.2%. That hurts! Frisco was 7.5% and Dallas itself was down 9.5% from 2008. How do these cities continue to have city services when this is a major source of their income? Allen is down 12% even with the two new shopping centers of Watters Creek and the Village at Allen.
Plano was the undisputed retail giant among the northern suburbs, but now the neighboring cities are getting their share of the shoppers. Leaders in Plano fear this trend might be accelerating. Hence, the Plano’s promotion of eat, buy and drink in Plano.
Such reports add to the worries that the spending slump may not be over. We will have to see how retail and spending ended up over the Christmas and Holiday shopping.
