Cell phones:

Are you ready to get a ticket if you are on your cell phone in a school zone? What do you think about the proposal being enforced in school zones?

Already, Dallas, Duncanville, Flower Mound, Highland Park, Highland Village, University Park, Rowlett, Sachse and Wylie have banned the use of handheld cellphones in school zones. Garland just killed the proposal last week.

Actually, there has not been reported major problems in school zones from using cell phones. It is just that drivers are distracted, parents feel, when they are on their handheld cell phones and the safety of their children are a concern. Garland police did record 8 traffic accidents in which cellphones were a factor in the last 2.5 years but none occurred in a school zone. I’m afraid we see people texting, reading and putting on makeup as well as talking on cellphones while driving. Probably the biggest danger is that drivers are distracted with the cellphone that they forget to slow down in the school zones! Better watch those phones though!
