Christmas Giving!

When did this giving start for Christmas? Is it really necessary to stress yourself out in shopping for Christmas? Does gift giving really come from the heart or a necessity to make us feel good? Or is it because we are obligated to give a gift if we are given one? Are billions of dollars wasted on buying presents that no one really wants? The joy of giving could be important to you, but I’m not sure it justifies bad giving.

All of us spend more money on a gift than we would for ourselves simply because we don’t have the time to shop and we don’t want to appear to be cheap! Would it not be better to plan ahead and suggest no gifts this year? It could be important to cut back and cut out buying with such an economy that we are in? You might find out that the Christmas holidays are just as enjoyable doing something different with your family and loved ones.

Some families have decided to draw names and that way not so many decisions have to be made. We haven’t exchanged gifts since 1975 and I don’t think my girls are any worse by not celebrating exchanging gifts. I remember watching the kids in my family rush to open the gifts and throw them aside and say what else is there? I saw the greed and unthankfulness and was not something I wanted to teach my children. Hopefully it will just make you think that there are other ways to celebrate family being together and showing love to one another. Sure makes less stress at this time of year.

Have a wonderful Christmas with or presents.
