What does St. James say in the Bible? That the tongue is hard to tame! I have been watching the political race (can’t help but to watch it since it is thrust into our faces constantly) and have noticed how careful and skilled all the candidates are when they speak! They have performed well under pressure despite the constant interviews, press conferences and intense media coverage. They completely understand that one false move, one mis-speak or one slip of the tongue could cost them the election. How easy it is to put your foot in your mouth!
How careful are WE in what we say? If CNN followed you around and the whole world listened, would you be considered presidential or disgusting? If we heard you speak about your company, would we be impressed? If we heard you speak to your children when no on was around, would we like what we heard? If we heard you speak at a party with only your closest friends, what would we likely hear you say? We expect our leaders and people of influence to always speak with integrity, character and optimism.
Why are we so careless about our tongue when we expect perfection from our leaders? Maybe we should watch everything that comes out of our mouths as though CNN is there listening and recording what we say and perhaps we should just try to simply speak presidential. (Thoughts from Walter Bond)
